Owl and Bird of Prey Visit to Nursery

Nursery and Reception children had an amazing opportunity this week to meet some owls and other birds of prey.  Children were fascinated to see the birds close up and to learn about their features and what they eat.  Every child had the chance to hold and touch owls and we all had great fun.

Here are some great facts we learnt about owls.

  • Owls with yellow eyes come out in the daytime.
  • Owls with black or brown eyes come out at night.
  • Owls with orange eyes come out at dawn and dusk.
  • Owls eat lots of different things, including fish, snakes, worms, mice, snails, slugs, caterpillars and spiders.
  • Owls have 8 talons (claws) on their feet
  • Owls have two ears, one is high up and one is low down.
We really enjoyed holding the owls and touching them gently, using one finger.  Enjoy looking at our photos.
