Curriculum Evening

Nursery Curriculum Evening 2022

This week we enjoyed inviting parents into school to get some ideas of activities to try at home with their children.  The families who came to visit had fun trying out a range of activities to help with mathematics and fine motor skills.

You can read about the activities here and see pictures of children and parents having fun below!  Please have a go at some of these fun ideas at home.

Fine Motor Skill activities develop the muscles in the hands and fingers to help with things such as drawing, writing, getting dressed, brushing teeth.

We tried...

  • learning to use scissors for snipping and cutting
  • having fun with playdough (Playdough recipe | BBC Good Food
  • scrunching up thin paper (like newspaper) and playing throwing games
  • building with Duplo and other construction toys
  • pegging socks on a low line

Maths
We also explored some maths games to help us learn to recognise dot patterns.

  • rolling a dice and adding conkers to a 'tree'
  • rolling a dice and adding candles to a playdough cake
  • making your own dot counters using bottle lids and then....
    put them in number order
hide them for a number hunt
show a bigger number, smaller number, the number which is 1 more or 1 less

Here are our children and parents having a go at these activities at school!
