Outdoor Adventures at Nursery

Outdoor Adventures

This half term we have started our Outdoor Adventures in Nursery.  These are lessons based on the grassed area at the back of the school where we can be surrounded by nature.

Sometimes we need to change into waterproof trousers and wellies, other times we might need sunhats!  Children spend time looking for plants, animals, insects and birds.  We are learning to play some fun games like hide and seek.  We make things using natural materials we can find. We also listen to stories and will be learning about ways to care for our local environment.

Enjoy looking at the photos.

Arts Week in Nursery: Henri Matisse

This week was Arts Week at school and in Nursery we learnt about the artist Henri Matisse.  We learnt that he was born more than 150 years ago.

As a child and a young man he loved to paint and he became an artist.  As an old man, he was ill and no longer able to paint.  He began making pictures from shapes cut from paper, he was "painting with scissors".

We had a go at "painting with scissors".  We hope you like our art work.

We also learnt about what it would have been like when Matisse was a child.  Toys were very different then.  We learnt that there were no  cars, TV or cartoons.

We looked at a very old rocking horse in Nursery.  (Some parents who went to Chater when they were younger may remember this rocking horse from the Reception area!!)

Matisse may have had a toy like this when he was young.

We looked carefully to draw pictures of it.
