Here is a video introduction to the scheme we use in school to teach reading and writing.  At Chater Infant School we use the Read Write Inc Phonics scheme all the way through our school, from Nursery to Year 2.

We will be providing a home learning pack which will support you with home learning, enabling you to help your child at home.  Please keep this safe as it will support your child in both Nursery and Reception.  The presentation will give you tips and ideas for using this pack. 

Please come and ask any member of the Nursery staff if you have any questions about phonics. 

Another busy week in Nursery

This week we have been busy in Nursery!  

We heard the story of Whatever Next by Jill Murphy.  

We pretended to go to visit the moon.  

We made rockets from junk.  

We played a game using a dice and so were learning about dot patterns and counting out objects to match.  

We also enjoyed another Outdoor Adventure and lots of child-initiated learning time.

First Chater School Outdoor Adventures

This week we had our first Chater School Outdoor Adventure session.

We learnt about the area in which we have our outdoor adventures, the boundaries, the base camp and how to climb up the sloped bank.  

We learnt some rules to help keep us safe.  

We enjoyed hunting for natural items such as yellow leaves, daisies and snails.  

We played hide and seek and had hot chocolate back at base camp at the end of the session.  

The session was thoroughly enjoyed by children and staff!

Colour hunting

 This week in Nursery we have been reading the story of
Wow Said the Owl! by Tim Hopgood.  

We have learnt how to use the makaton signs for different colours.  

We have been collecting things of different colours, been on a colour hunt and made rainbow paintings.

The children are settling in well.  

They have really enjoyed exploring their new environment.  They especially enjoy being in the outdoor space.
